traveling with celiac disease sounds daunting. what can I eat? what should I pack? what if I don't speak the language?
no need to panic! just because you are gluten free doesn't mean you shouldn't travel the world and taste what other places have to offer!
traveling with celiac disease , yes you can do it! after 4 years, I can confidently say that traveling can be as easy as pie (gluten free of course) if you consistently follow the 3 P's. PLAN, PREPARE and silly as it may sound PACK.
PLAN, planning is an essential part of any trip, when traveling with celiac disease it is important to plan and be sure that your upcoming adventure (big or small) has some sort of itinerary to guide it so you can navigate the local food stores, gluten free restaurants and options your desired place of travel has to offer.
PREPARE, once your plan is in place it will help to guide you and those traveling with you! it will allow you the opportunity to do some advanced research, googling, calling ahead and my favorite of course, it will allow you to make some detailed lists (yes, I am a crazy list maker) of your must visit "gluten free go to spots"!
PACK, well obviously! if your taking a trip, whether it is across town to visit a friend for an afternoon, overnight, a long weekend, across the county or across the globe packing is essential. pockets, pocketbooks, luggage and duffle bags, they are coming with us wherever we are traveling and there is always room for gluten free snacks! when traveling (even to my mother's house), I am always over prepared with a packed snack or two in tow.
there are tons of great, healthy, filling snacks that are easy to pack and store for your travels! some of my favorites are larabars, chex cereal or a simple piece of fresh fruit if I am not going far!
stay tuned for more on where I have traveled with celiac disease and tips when traveling with celiac disease!
